Michelle Wie has accepted a sponsor exemption to play in the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic in suburban Toledo this summer. Wie, a freshman at Stanford, first played in the tournament as a 13-year-old amateur in 2003. The LPGA pro was sidelined with wrist problems that shortened her season last year. Woods' charity event gets a new title sponsor

Tiger Woods landed a new title sponsor for his holiday tournament in southern California, signing a five-year deal Thursday with Chevron with designs of raising money and developing programs to support Woods' education-based foundation. The Chevron World Challenge will be held Dec. 18-21 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., featuring a world-class field of 16 players competing for a $5.75 million purse, the largest of the silly season.

Pablo Martin of Spain and Gregory Bourdy of France each shot 8-under 63 Thursday to break the course record and lead by one shot after the first round of the Portuguese Open. The 21-year-old Martin, who last year became the first amateur to win an event on the European tour with his victory at the Portuguese Open, had eight birdies. He is now a professional. Bourdy also had eight birdies on the Oitavos Dunes course in a span of 11 holes beginning with the sixth.
