Hello and welcome to golfi.org, featuring continuously updated news of my golf activities as they happen. Since I'm living in Switzerland now, most of the activity will be focusing there, but I do travel to Majorca (Mallorca) quite a bit, and also like visiting South-Africa and Thailand for the odd golfing break, so I hope to also include some insights about golf in those countries.

If you're interested in what's going on in Switzerland with regards to golfing and feel like contributing your own experiences, please register and join the site, you'll get your own personal blogging space and access to all of the info available here, and you can submit your own entries. Your contributions may be even featured on the front page.

There is both an art and a science to reading greens. The art comes from trusting your instincts and the longer you play golf, the better they will get if you let them. Most golfers over analyse and out-think themselves into missed holes and 3 putts. There is some science that can be applied at the right time and place to aid your putting but you must know when to apply it and when to get out of your own way!

First round of the season at the Migros Course in Holzhäusern, 9 holes - I like this course, but the greens were absolutely terrible today, and they charged full fees, and did't even let on about the problem beforehand - I hate that kind of taking advantage of people. Anyway, the weather was very nice, but my swing is pretty rusty - I've lost a lot of distance over the winter period. Back to the driving range... Ah, and a final thought - be very careful on the 9th, there is a completely unprotected children's playground to the right off the tee, right in the way of your slice. I guess they wi

If you read my story about swissgolfnetwork.ch, here's another one: teetimes.ch, which, as far as I can ascertain, is run by the same people, is also not up to scratch. It's the first nice weekend of the season, and the site is unresponsive at best, and throws errors left right and center, clearly not being able to carry the load put onto the system by golfers trying to book their t-times - presumabaly what the site has been designed to cater for. It cannot even handle something simple like handling a user typing in 'teetimes.ch' and throws an error - you MUST enter the site typing 'www.teetimes.ch' (note the www in front of the domain).

Swiss Golf Network (www.swissgolfnetwork.ch) seems to have overhauled their website - unfortunately, it turned out to be quite a mess. Parameters are not properly substituted (there are TXT_* placeholders everywhere), it took me ages to find out that they actually reset my password to the default 'abcd' (even though I have had a proper password on their site for years) - which, incidentally, means that you can login as pretty much anyone if you know their ASG number - and they want to charge you CHF 6.40 for sending you your password, what a joke. Granted, the old swissgolfnetwork site was not that fancy, but it was at least functional, this one is, welll - just terrible. They even throw uncaught errors:

Just got back from a golf tour in South Africa, organized by Cape to Kruger Golf Tours. This was the best golf holiday I've had in a long time, Colin, our guide from Cape to Kruger Golf Tours was just great, and we all had a fantastic time - I thought for a while that I might win the tour tournament, but Larry just beat me in the end. We played Kingswood (long...), Bramble Hill (great course!), Devonvale (good warmup course to start things off, very friendly staff)and Mossel Bay (lovely views). Strongly recommended, excellent value for money.
